A Project Architect plays a crucial role in the architectural industry. They oversee the design and construction of various projects, ensuring that they meet the client's requirements, are completed within budget and timeline constraints, and comply with building codes and regulations.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Project Management:
  • Lead and manage architectural projects from conception to completion.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Design Development:
  • Create and develop architectural designs, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
  • Use design software and tools to produce accurate and detailed drawings.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure designs comply with local zoning regulations, building codes, and other legal requirements.
  • Secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, which may include interior designers, engineers, contractors, and other consultants.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior architects and draftspersons.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Possess a strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and systems.
  • Specify materials and finishes that meet project requirements and budget constraints.
  • Client Interaction:
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients, informing them of project progress and addressing any concerns or questions.
  • Quality Control:
  • Conduct site visits to ensure construction aligns with design intent and quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve any design or construction issues that may arise during the project.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Prepare and review project documentation, including drawings, specifications, reports, and presentations.
  • Maintain accurate records of project milestones, expenses, and communications.
  • Innovation and Research:
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Incorporate sustainable and innovative design strategies when applicable.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
  • Manage project budgets, including tracking expenses, reviewing invoices, and making cost-effective decisions.
  • Allocate resources efficiently to meet project requirements.
Compensation

  • $90,000-$130,000
Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Architectural License in California. 
  • Proficiency in architectural design software
  • Highly skilled in AutoCAD 
  • Familiar with SketchUp, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Google Suite
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and construction methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Typically requires 5+ years of experience in architectural design and project management.
